#1 Dani Brown drank coffee from a blue mug in the open kitchen of her studio apartment, doodling Sole Outlines, converting them to four quadrant grids by adding a vertical and a horizontal line, alternately identifying the quadrants by number and color when diagraming the opening dance for 12 Notes.
#2 Grooving to Al Green, Dani visualized her six dancers initiating movement through a numbered and colored sole impression. In her mind, the number-grid users adopted a hip-hop style, and the color-sole grid dancers had more of a modern story flow. Dani worked her Mental Mix Board, linking sole color signals to a Calf Hamstring Handclasp, connecting the Heels to the Sit Bones, the underside of the Pelvic Bowl, as scored by k.d. lang, Halleluiah.
#3 Pacing her small living room wall to wall, she puzzled on how to convey the importance of the Magnus to her dancers. They were all trained in classic turnout, so she visualized warming them up with exaggerated leg rotation away from the center, alternately visualizing rotating the legs with air resistance bands and a long stick shift as she drove to Podi Ranch and the Rehearsal Barn, where the Dancing Buddies gathered for collaboration.
#4 When she arrived, the dancers stretched to John Barry's Somewhere In Time soundtrack, moving to the tender, wistful notes aching for connection. She joined them…
