Six and a half years ago, I retired from a busy, public-based BigCity lifestyle to a small, seaside port where I didn’t know anyone. I systematically made solid connections and transitioned from Coach MindSet to Guide MindSet.
My homebase rental has been sold, and I ride the RollerCoaster into a Senior Residence, yet another Identity/Community Shift. Except this time, I’m tuning in at a different frequency, preparing to cross to the Other Side. I’m alternately relieved and anxious.
My neighbors are old like me in my new place, and an overworked manager is responsible for keeping order, which is impossible. There is no more of an across-the-street kind of association. I walk dirty hallways, passing door after door, triggering a long-ago nightmare of hallways with children’s blood seeping from beneath locked panels.
