On an early June evening in 2015, Carl and Kam drive across Lake Washington’s sparkling expanse, pleasantly tired after Story Mapping Guide Training. Mount Rainier, a quiet volcano shrouded in white and blue, glows on the South Horizon.

“The Calf Hamstring Handclasp,” Kam sings to the tune, Dancin in the Moonlight, keeping time with finger taps on the steering wheel.

Carl slides his hands on his thighs. “I experienced a Calf Vibe fracture when we were doing the Leg Z Exercise. And then,” he exclaims, “my Magnus Stickshift stuck.”

The Story Mapping Training applies a 12 Muscle Organization Station (MOS) Grid to the body for Readout Assessment.

Kam laughs, steering with one hand, his sleeveless black T highlighting his muscled arms. “The Magnus StickShift is pretty advanced,” he cautions, skewing his eyes to read Carl’s response.

“Yeah.” Carl contrasts Kam’s Rogue Boy look with a preppy presence — khakis, button-down blue and white checked shirt, and black penny loafers, an outfit he’s worn since he was nine.

Kam changes lanes as if stunt driving, and Carl unconsciously presses against the passenger door, releasing a sigh of relief when they park outside the Madison Pub in the Seattle Leschi Neighborhood.
