WordSwap is a simple method of structuring story resets. For example, instead of habitually saying, “I’m sorry,” I replace the phrase with a brief declaration of action taken. Then I can decide if the action requires an apology or not. “I’m trying” has become “I am doing.” When I qualify an action as something I’m either beginning or still doing, I drop the qualifiers and replace them with, once again, “I’m doing.” Identifying my beginner status resets the story to start over, and “I’m still doing” is a sheepish form of judgment and failure.

Another swapping technique involves hearing the story my thoughts are telling and systematically replacing the stories with muscle organization visualization. For a few moments, the skateboard becomes real, and I have no time to think about whether ADHD Jitters is real. It becomes all about how to use the energy.

All fine and good. Story reset is a process. I settled in for a long haul, then, bit by bit, became suspicious when the outcome scenery didn’t change much. I rarely needlessly apologized, took action instead of trying to take action, and recognized starting over and…
