How do you know there are obstacles in your path? First, listen to what you point out in others, ways in which they hold you back, weigh you down, put you in a rut, or always get in your way and shut you down.
:____________” is so negative, they hold me back.
“My ___________ is always nagging me, it weighs me down.”
“______________” is always pressuring me to succeed. It's a huge rut I can't get out of."
"No matter what I do, ____________ is always criticizing me and shutting me down."
If what you see in others is not new, it's not a discovery. But, when you turn the perception around and see it as a reflection of yourself, you have the opportunity to discover something about yourself. The first obstacle in this self-aware path might be resistance to the idea you hold yourself back, weigh yourself down, dig ruts you can't get out of, and shut yourself down.
If you experience resistance, is it more of bracing energy, keeping something away, a sensation of being dragged somewhere you don't want to go, or a wall of denial? If you find yourself reinforcing the stories about how others are the problem, once again, nothing new. Resistance might not be new, but how you deal with it could be a discovery of deeper meaning.
If you find yourself fighting against negativity, accept the opportunity to clear obstacles. Listen to your thoughts about a person's negativity until you can hear your judgmental and negative tones pointing them out. Listen…
