The sole of your foot connects to every part of your body in some way. When you walk, signals are sent from the ground up through your body. There is no mistake that sole and soul have the same name with a different spelling. When you hop on the self-awareness path and walk toward your horizon, it is your core you are headed for, your true soul self.
Trace the outline of each foot on a piece of paper, focusing on slowing down and listening for your inner beat. Is your inner beat a frantic pounding of anxiety and worry? Is it a ceremonial layering of sacred life unfolding? Is it winding and curious, melodic or passionate? Do you encounter judgment, an inner critic that scorns and scoffs your intention?
Draw a line down the middle of each sole outline, reflecting on the divide between your past and your future. Draw a line across the arch, reflecting on what it means to take a step forward or to step back.
Designate the four different quadrants using numbers, symbols, color, or a combination thereof. This is your sole grid, the imprint you make on the earth with every step. When you visualize the sole grid lighting up with color, the visualization signals the body to wake up and organize toward the core. Seeing your life as a ceremonial dance, no matter what you are doing, starts with the feet, or the part of you initiating downward force for movement momentum.
