From Body Sobbing To Body Singing
I was not raised to cry. Boys don’t cry, feelings are to be suppressed, weakness is scorned, the list goes on and on. Fortunately, though I didn’t know it growing up, I’m highly emotionally intelligent. I didn’t cry, but I had meltdowns of rage, frustration, and inexplicable feelings. I understand now these episodes helped keep my inner life from completely freezing over. It wasn’t for another twenty years when I read Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman I understood I had to get in shape to embody and guide my intelligence.
