Member-only story
March 2020, USA. The virus took over the land. I quickly realized the monthly amount I received from the sale of my gym, cut in half, would not support me. A friend, who works with the PT Townsend Food Bank, told me I might check it out. Reluctantly I agreed.
Reluctant? Hmm. I paused on that marker. The first pictures that came to mind were stories I heard as a child about the horrors of the Great Depression. Lack, survival, long lines waiting for a handout, never vulnerable. I had to overcome my resistance to taking a “handout.” But then, there I was, standing in line at the PT Townsend Food LIne. And, here I am, 1 1/2 years later, standing in the PT Towsend Food Line every Saturday.
The Spoonman always leads the line. He arrives on his bike, hair skull shaved to growing in and reverse. Can you imagine? Standing in line with the great Spoonman? And, the shortest of us all, a tiny female figure with snow-white hair, has published 14 novels. The Spoonman told me.
But, it’s the Holiday Season, and the energy is different. I understand. Every year I suffer the Holiday Blues. Not that others do or don’t, but I’m guessing many do. This season, I want to take footage of each Food Line member’s gait as they join the line, then cue their footage with a Xmas tune of their choosing. And, finally, to splice all the stories together of those standing in and those sharing the line!
Who has the tech to make this happen?
