When we get older, we are like classic cars. We sparkle with style and a wealth of experience. MMC is a classic rocketship going places or a cruiseship of fun and adventure. The many paths she has taken in this life journey blend a narrative of Red Rover, Pickleball, Golf, IslandLife, Marriage, Motherhood, Friendship, Sorrow, and the Joy of sharing Kindness.
Pacific Northwest IslandLife, USA, in the 1960s, a rural setting of evergreen rich and poor, where the youth and adults led entwined but separate lives. The kids gathered to square off in two teams, interlocking arms across shoulders and calling out an opposite team member to break their chain. If they broke the chain, the victor got to claim an enemy for one of their own. They became one with the opposing team if they did not break the chain.
MMC’s family lived in the neighborhood where a Senator lived in a prominent house visible from the ferry that transported people to and from the big city across a channel to the ocean. One summer day in 1965, the tanned and handsome adults mindstormed, creating a fun, new game for the families. Pickelball was born. Some say the name came from the dog that dashed into the bushes to retrieve the errant wiffle balls, and some say the dog, Pickles, was born after the game’s creation.
