I’m a card-carrying member of #ChallengePartnersUSA. On Monday, I had the privilege of story mapping with the club founder, Blick. He’s engaging in a significant life transition, and I’m writing a pivotal chapter depicting the Weighed Down Release Dance. Our challenge story session share revolved around student-teacher relations. We have long collaborated to fill in details of side-by-side learning and are well-versed in techniques to unlock and release archaic methods of student-teacher engagement.
Blick took on the student role, and I worked the range from teacher to student advocate. When I climbed up on my soapbox to teach, he raised his hand when he lost track of my words and pooled in a blankness with an agitation base. So we danced energy back and forth between lost and frozen to pontificating and superior until sustainable release occurred, and we got back to our conversation.
Students and teachers have a platform in common, the subject they are learning about and putting into practice. Long ago, the popular belief depicted teachers as all-knowing and students as blank pages. Blick and I know enough to recognize stalling out at who knows and who doesn’t know is a waste of time and energy.
