Sloane Series: #5

Sloane called a PB Drumming Practice for Tuesday night. He sent a Zoom invitation and watched Barb and Bixby pop up on the screen at the appointed time. Barb, positioned center, was flanked by Bixby on her right. Sloane adjusted to the picture. He had requested the PB Drumming Guide Training manual from the local Training Center and had to jump through a lot of hoops before he got it. But, he got it. On his end of the Zoom experience, he opened the manual. The first page asked for his notes from scanning his fellow Trekkers on the present path. He noted that Barb was rounded, and, he added, “oafish”, though he wasn’t certain what that meant. Bixby was “squirrelly”, his presentation all over the place. Then the manual asked him to take his observations of his fellow Trekkers and turn them around so he was looking at a map of himself.

Unprepared for this turn in the road, he foundered, spun the rat cage longer than usual, and by the time he surfaced, the session had ended. He had competently guided a PB Position Review, the basic PB Drumming Techniques, and Barb had chatted Bixby up and down while Bixby scrambled to keep up with the banter. Sloane thanked everyone, himself included, and ended the practice session.

After sitting unmoving for many, long minutes, Sloane lifted his fingers to the keyboard and, focusing on lighting up his feet, typed his notes.
