This morning I read an excellent piece by Jillian Enright illuminating various masking methods neurodivergent people use to fit into the social culture. Ritu Bhasin says, "The push to conform and mask who we are can be difficult to fight because belonging is an extremely powerful and deep-seated driver for all of us."
I have always felt I did not "fit in" and tried many ways of making this happen with varied success through the years. Finally, I faced the great challenge of learning to belong to myself and stop chasing approval as a measure of my self-worth.
