The Art of Body Sobbing

Face crying is generated by a thought narrative, in which I evoke sad and painful stories fortified with details. I think about being sad, hurt, alone, and bereft, and my face contorts while tears flow. However, my body isn’t invited to participate in the grief release.

I didn’t acquire the art of face crying until my mid-thirties after fighting the men-don’t-cry surf until I broke through to calmer waters. It didn’t take me long to realize that face crying is a form of restricted feeling manifested in grimacing and shame flooding.

Before Bessel van der Kolk published The Body Keeps Score in 2014, I recognized that listening to my body orchestration is critical to self-fulfillment. So, I hopped on the Body Sobbing Path, determined to summit the Peak.

As with all Magnificent Peaks, I got excited by the promising ads and put out money for a Mind-Blowing Trek, only to find myself shivering in an unknown Hut, unsure how to get home. Later, I learned that the biggest obstacle was my mental narrative, designed to paint only positive pictures. It didn’t work. I always ended up in the Lost Hut and had to develop exit strategies.

I rode the mid-thirties to the early sixties surf, keeping Body Sobbing Peak in sight, a glowing pulse of perspective promise. Along the way, I invested in Data Deets Mining. Contrary to the belief that I can…
