Having been invited to participate in a Community Choreography Project, Polly Pristine eagerly arrived at Podi Ranch, where she met with the choreographer and other dancers on a Saturday morning at the Rehearasl Barn. First, the dancers were asked to answer eight questions, which would be used as the dance piece foundation. Polly replied she is weighed down by perfection, held back by the fear of not doing something RIGHT, gets stuck in a rut of trying to do her best, and is blocked by thinking life is a test. Furthermore, she empties her thoughts through a faucet attached to her head, shakes off judgment, is triggered by criticism, and sees victory in the ability to plant a garden randomly instead of perfectly.
What is the opposite of being weighed down? Polly sees her need to be perfect as a numbing yet rigid weight masked by a smile. The opposite would be flinging off the masked weight. Exploring the range brought relief, but the fear of doing things RIGHT wrapped her in paralytic chains. On the opposite end of the spectrum, massaging and loosening the steel links proved tedious, bringing tears to her eyes, and there she is, stuck in a rut, trying to do her best.
