Every Sunday, the ChallengePartnersUSA Club meets in the basement of an old church on the edge of town. Blick and I are regulars, and an assortment of other members drop in from time to time. This week four of us sat in a circle for our Circle Story Share, our arm-up ritual.
“I had a bout of desolation this week,” I said, and we listened to what we know about desolation, holding a respectful silence for this worthy challenge.
“I got stuck on the A Train,” Blick shared. “I boarded the Express by mistake and couldn’t get off.” Respectful silence.
“Today is the first anniversary of my brother’s death. When he passed, he left a note that read, “I no longer know the meaning of curiosity.” Listening silence.
“I’m designing a 12-step program for interrupting self-doubt.” We all nodded, knowing that challenge well.
After some deliberation, we decided on the Week’s Challenge Theme: Take the A Train to Desolation Point, get off at each of the twelve stations and meet the Curious Challenge.
When I got home, I drew a map in my journal. The Terminal Station where I catch the A Train has a Sole Assessment booth, and I learn my footprint in the sand shows the right arch high and frozen. I receive a card recommending I visualize the arch as a bow and shoot twenty arrows down into the earth three times a day or more. I draw a bow and arrow in my journal and board the A Train.
